School Committee · Meeting of February 9, 2026

Watertown school officials weighed funding for new football uniforms and wrestling room upgrades tied to the new high school. Athletic Director Ryan told the School Committee's athletics subcommittee that football uniforms bought in 2017 are entering their 10th season, far beyond the industry's four-to-six-year replacement cycle, after the district eliminated roughly $100,000 in annual sports-fee revenue and its equipment rotation plan during pandemic budget cuts. Officials estimated about $25,000 for 55 to 60 new football uniforms and $7,500 for girls lacrosse.

Head football coach Joey Carroll said the uniforms have been patched for nine years and "the kids earned them and deserve new ones." The subcommittee also discussed sharing a 33-by-33-foot wrestling room at the new high school and buying a third mat for $12,000 to $14,000, with FF&E funding identified for the mat.
