Watertown's Curriculum Subcommittee reviewed 2026 MCAS results showing gains in most subjects but persistent gaps for high-needs students.
School Committee · Meeting of October 13, 2026
Watertown's Curriculum Subcommittee reviewed 2026 MCAS results showing gains in most subjects but persistent gaps for high-needs students. Members Amy Donahue, Sheila Christon and Lisa Gabroja heard that elementary math reached 55 percent meeting or exceeding expectations, 14 points above the state, while high school math fell eight percentage points. Coordinator Elizabeth said scores were "two points up from last year, 14 above the state" in elementary math.
In high school math, only 18 percent of high-needs students met or exceeded expectations versus 47 percent of all students. A coordinator said closing that gap "keeps me up at night." The panel postponed its Balanced Screening Initiative update and a Graduation Readiness Dashboard demonstration, and the full presentation heads to the School Committee on Oct. 19.
