Subcommittee to press City Council on field access
Watertown's Athletics and Extracurricular Subcommittee weighed field shortages, a uniform fundraiser and a hockey proposal, but took no substantive votes.
School Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Watertown's Athletics and Extracurricular Subcommittee weighed field shortages, a uniform fundraiser and a hockey proposal, but took no substantive votes. Athletics staff presenter Ryan said the yearlong closure of Victory Field left middle school girls' soccer practicing at a park near Arsenal because available girls' coaches, drawn from the high school, could not start before 3:30 p.m., an hour later than boys' coaches. "It didn't seem right for me," Ryan said of the gap.
Parent Lisa McKean, representing Watertown Football Gridiron, proposed selling roughly 50 retired football jerseys at about $100 each to fund sports-fee hardship aid. Members also heard the district's $20,000 field-trip financial assistance fund, including a $5,000 Watertown Community Foundation donation, drew heavy demand this year. The subcommittee's only recorded vote was to adjourn at 5:29 p.m.
