School Committee · Meeting of September 30, 2026

Watertown's Ad Hoc Student Services Subcommittee reviewed special education compliance data showing the district 1.25 points short of meeting state criteria. Administrators told the panel Watertown earned 25 of 35 possible points on the state's special education determination matrix, with compliance points at 14 of 16 and performance points at 8 of 16. The district reported one open complaint, two mediations, and three pending hearing-related matters under the state's complaint process since July 2026.

Team chairs will now read and sign all IEPs, and guidance counselors will oversee 504 plans going forward. A parent advisory group reorganization is underway with help from the Massachusetts Special Education Parent Advisory Council, which is offering an organizing meeting November 12. Subcommittee member Mark said "it's still not where I think you could be or should be." No formal votes were taken.
