WATERTOWN — The Watertown Commission on Disability said months of outreach to the private Sons of Italy hall over wheelchair access had drawn no response, while pressing the city to act on a stalled Arsenal Street sidewalk plan. Interim ADA Coordinator Tyler said he could not reach club representatives despite multiple attempts, and member John Haas called the silence "ridiculous." Chair Kim Charlson said DPW has not delivered a promised plan for Arsenal Street, where trees narrow the sidewalk to as little as 12 inches, and said "I just got really angry when I see our spending our tax dollars to prune trees" that still block passage. Tyler reported the city submitted $250,000 in Massachusetts Office on Disability grant requests for City Hall accessibility, with results due in December, and said the commission's account holds roughly $172,000 after encumbrances.
Members voted 5-0, with one abstention, to approve May's minutes and 6-0 to accept the treasurer's report.
