Disability panel approves $8,500 for bike events

Commission on Disability · Meeting of August 19, 2026

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Commission on Disability voted 7-0 to fund its first-ever accessible recreation program. Members authorized up to $8,500 toward two 2027 cycling events organized with All Out Adventures and Live Well Watertown, out of a projected $9,400 total cost. Chair Kim Charlson called it a program the commission has "never funded" before.

Separately, Councilor Lisa Feltner, also a commission member, said the city ignored a council-approved request for an accessibility plan on Arsenal Street and instead installed sawhorse signage, saying "we were being ignored." The commission will submit its own written statement before the City Council takes up the sidewalk issue in September. Members also learned a resident's request for automatic doors at 22 Bond Street in Arsenal Yards hit a wall after management showed the building meets code.
