Conservation Commission · Meeting of March 4, 2026

Watertown's Conservation Commission found three trees axed down in Whitney Hill Park and voted to appoint Marilyn Salvis to the Community Preservation Committee. Conservation Agent Katie documented hatchet marks on trees three to six inches in diameter after a resident's 311 complaint was misrouted before reaching the commission. City Councilor Piccoli told members "the 311 team does not know that Whitney Hill Park is under the control and custody of the Conservation Commission." Salvis proposed a letter telling abutters to call police rather than file 311 reports, saying "this is damage to public property." The commission voted 5-0 to send Salvis to the CPC but failed to reach quorum on approving February minutes after one member abstained and another recused.

Members also weighed shifting to hybrid meetings before a remote-meeting law expires June 30, 2027.
