Historical Commission · Meeting of September 10, 2026

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Historical Commission flagged concerns that large housing funding requests could squeeze Community Preservation Act money available for historic preservation. Matthew Walter, the commission's representative to the Community Preservation Committee, said one pending housing application totals $6 million and warned he doesn't "want to make sure it doesn't suck the funds dry for things that might matter to us." The commission voted 5-0 to set its 2027 meeting schedule, moving the November date to Wednesday, November 10, 2027, and voted 4-0 with one abstention to accept amended July 9 minutes correcting resident Joseph Iaconelli's name. New member Kevin Lee, an architect living in Watertown since 2017, was formally welcomed.

The CPC preliminarily approved a modest Brown House repair request from Historic New England, while a Mount Auburn Street Victorian house application stalled after the applicant failed to respond to a follow-up request. A demolition-delay bylaw revision heads back to subcommittee September 15.
