Historical Commission · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Watertown Historical Commission voted 3-2 against historic status for 34 Gleason Street house. The panel determined the property, built in the 1930s, was not historically significant, following a public hearing on preservation. Member Elise Loukas, Chair, characterized it as a Craftsman Bungalow and argued for designation, while co-owner Katherine Comick presented the case for demolition, citing structural issues including foundation problems, rotted wood, lead paint, and water infiltration.
The proposed new construction would be a by-right single-family home with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a two-car garage. Public comment supported allowing demolition to proceed.
