Zoning Board · Meeting of May 27, 2026

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved special permits for a dormer addition at 67 Capitol Street and a new two-family home at 235 Mount Auburn Street. Both votes passed 5-0. Architect Leslie Soll presented the Capitol Street dormer project, which board members said adds just 34 square feet to help owners age in place.

For the Mount Auburn Street project, applicant Robert Purdy's team proposed an L-shaped Greek Revival two-family on a newly subdivided Walnut Street lot. Abutter Michelle DeBru of 21 Walnut Street said "it is really important for us to maintain privacy," citing tree removal and a close setback. The board added conditions requiring an arborist review, fencing consistency, and trash screening before approving the permit.

A separate vote on updated board bylaws, unrevised since roughly 2011, was tabled until next month.
