Economic Development · Meeting of October 14, 2026

Watertown council committees postponed endorsing a draft five-year Housing Plan after a two-and-a-half-hour review. Senior Planner for Housing Will Downey told the joint Human Services and Economic Development and Planning committees that just 7.4 percent of city housing sits on the state's Subsidized Housing Inventory, below the 10 percent threshold under Chapter 40B, and that the median single-family home now sells for $850,000 against a $430,000 affordability ceiling for median-income renters. Affordable Housing Trust chair Cliff Cook called the plan "the product of dozens of hours of work." Councilor Vinny Piccirilli pushed to endorse the plan soon rather than debate all "33 recommendations" line by line, while Councilor Tony Palomba proposed reconvening in December or January after staff incorporate feedback.

Committees voted 5-0 by roll call to continue the meeting and 5-0 to adjourn.
