WATERTOWN — The Watertown Community Preservation Committee voted 7-0 to recommend $6 million in CPA funds for a 49-unit affordable housing project at 108 Water Street. The money would go to nonprofit developer Metro West Collaborative Development, whose Executive Director Barney Heath called the site "a rare opportunity in a great location." Committee reviewer Christine Rogers flagged the per-unit contribution, about $122,500, as heavier than the committee's earlier Willow Park investment, and recommended conditions including an appraisal and lien-holder status for the town. Metro West's team disclosed loan rates of 6.25 percent and 6.8 percent, each carrying a half-point cushion, and said the project cannot proceed without the CPC's acquisition funding.
The committee also delayed accepting its prior meeting minutes after member Abigail Hammett said several of her comments had been omitted. The recommendation now heads to the City Council.
