Watertown Arts Panel Elects Erin Chair, OKs Mural

Public Arts and Culture Committee · Meeting of October 26, 2026

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee elected Erin as its new chair and voted to fund up to $8,000 for a Prospect Street mural, contingent on wall repairs. Outgoing chair Roberta is stepping down November 15 ahead of knee replacement surgery; Jesse Needleman continues as vice chair and Dawn as clerk. The committee confirmed a $100,000 MassDevelopment grant for downtown "creative placemaking," including the Safe Passage Project's pedestrian-safety murals, information kiosks and utility box art, after requesting $132,000.

Edible Watertown reported it lost Community Foundation funding this cycle as the foundation shifts priority toward "essential needs" projects, even as eight recipes finalized. The Community Sculpture Walk call closes November 5, with the selection vote moved to a rescheduled November 30 meeting.
