Arts Committee Weighs Mural For Prospect Street

Public Arts and Culture Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026

WATERTOWN — The Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee discussed a possible new mural near the Belmont town line and reviewed early survey data for its Public Arts Master Plan update. A resident asked the "entrance to our neighborhood" be beautified with a mural near Prospect and Belmont streets; the preschool building's owner is open to it, and the committee floated a budget around $10,000, though one member noted a past mural cost $25,000. A short-form master-plan survey drew 442 responses, a 43 percent response rate members called unusually strong.

Staff member Liz said "the gaps are definitely the marketing" when discussing the Cultural District's outreach. No funding vote was taken; the mural and a new project-evaluation rubric were both continued to the September meeting.
