Watertown's Stormwater Advisory Committee flagged a rotted 48-inch drainpipe on Morton Street and mapped a new outreach push.
Stormwater Advisory Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Watertown's Stormwater Advisory Committee flagged a rotted 48-inch drainpipe on Morton Street and mapped a new outreach push. Department of Public Works engineer Sean said the pipe, found during gas-line work, will be replaced within weeks, and the department's new camera truck will let crews inspect drains ahead of paving going forward. Member Nancy, fresh from the Environmental Business Council's conference, said Massachusetts lacks delegated federal stormwater authority and that the town's monitoring work "may have let our monitoring contract lapse" for at least two quarters.
Member Heather agreed to lead a new community-outreach push after roughly 5,000 people attended the committee's Fair on the Square table, per city events manager Tammy McKenna's estimate. Members also discussed inviting the Charles River Watershed Association to speak after it reportedly called Watertown's program a state standard-setter.
