Council on Aging reports new bus, staff hire

Council on Aging · Meeting of June 10, 2026

Watertown's Council on Aging board heard that the city has funded a second senior shuttle bus and an additional staff position, while members began weighing where to park cars for a relocated health fair. Staff member Lydia reported the department expects a MassDOT-awarded shuttle bus by next July and said the City Council separately funded a second bus, giving the center two full-size vehicles within a year. She said May programming included 519 meals served and 163 programs, with 16 volunteers logging 243 hours worth roughly $3,600.

One board member called for 2024-2026 comparisons rather than a 2021 pandemic-era baseline, saying "what I'd be looking at is 2024, 2025, and then of course, 2026." The board also discussed moving its annual health fair to mid-September and debated parking fixes, including renting a lot at Hibernian Hall or closing nearby streets, with one member saying of weekend vendor turnout, "I don't think it's a problem."
