Watertown's Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee voted to ask the city to add about 27 seconds to the pedestrian crossing phase at the Elton and Nichols intersection.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee · Meeting of August 3, 2026
Watertown's Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee voted to ask the city to add about 27 seconds to the pedestrian crossing phase at the Elton and Nichols intersection. Member Adrian moved the request, which passed unanimously, though members noted the city currently has no permanent city engineer, which has also paused the Complete Streets working group: "Without a city engineer, is the complete streets working group on hold now, too?" one member asked. Committee member Maria reported on a proposed 285-unit, five-story apartment building at 9 Galen Street, where the garage would provide 191 car spaces against a required 144, plus 172 total bicycle spaces, and said she "almost fell off my chair" when the developer argued half the required long-term bike parking could be waived because residents would keep bikes inside small units.
The committee also approved its own rules-and-order document and the July meeting minutes, 7-0 with one abstention.
