City Council · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Watertown City Council adopted a $40.587 million fiscal year 2027 capital improvement program and approved several loan orders at its March 10 meeting. Councilor Vincent J. Piccirilli, chair of the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Oversight, presented 36 recommendations, including a $10 million placeholder loan order for a possible new middle school now estimated at $112,239,426.

Councilor Nicole Gardner pushed back on placeholder language, saying residents have told her "this decision has already been taken, it's a done deal." The council also voted 9-0 to approve a $750,000 sewer loan order and a $30,000 transfer toward $480,000 in firefighter turnout gear, approved an intermunicipal agreement sharing a recreation coordinator with Belmont, and advanced a pet shop sales ban to a first reading. City Manager George Proakis announced the winter parking ban lifts Wednesday.
