WATERTOWN — The Community Preservation Committee reviewed the final design for Walker Pond, with the project advancing to schematic design and environmental permitting. IMEG consultants presented Phase 1 findings including a conceptual design refined by public input, featuring 12 parking spaces and activity areas avoiding noise conflicts. Committee members questioned maintenance and liability concerns; public commenters raised environmental protection and wildlife habitat issues.
Coordinator Lanae Handy reported a CPA fund balance of nearly $15 million as of March 31, with major projects ahead: Walker Pond at $8-10 million, cemetery rehabilitation estimated over $1.5 million, and North Branch Library work seeking at least $1.1 million. The committee planned community engagement for its 5-year plan update.
