Watertown's Solid Waste advisory panel recommended changes to Climate and Energy Plan metrics.
City Council · Meeting of April 1, 2026
Watertown's Solid Waste advisory panel recommended changes to Climate and Energy Plan metrics. The Solid Waste and Recycling Advisory Committee recommended shifting waste measurement from household-based to per-capita, and set a 5,000-household target for the composting metric despite the city already exceeding the 2030 food waste pickup goal. The committee discussed awareness-raising strategies including a billboard on Mt.
Auburn Street, targeted mailings to non-participants, and outreach to new residents. Members also expressed support for a pending state Bottle Bill and planned to assess a new regional recycling facility opening this summer.
