WATERTOWN — Historical Commission imposes 18-month demolition delay at 22 Stoneleigh Circle. The commission voted 5 to 1 to designate the 1.5-story Colonial Revival as preferably preserved and 5 to 1 to impose the 18-month delay. Applicant Haigaz Markarian outlined plans to demolish the garage, renovate the interior, and add four bedrooms with an elevator.
Architect Alexandra Peterson said the design conforms to zoning requirements. Commission members Jamie Gordon, Andrew Thompson, and Joseph Panto expressed concerns about preserving the home's character, while neighbors Lisa Paul and Jocelyn Tager spoke against the changes. The delay gives the applicant and city time to explore renovation alternatives that protect the exterior.
