WATERTOWN — Committee referred plastic ordinance to Council with disability-training plan. The Committee on Rules and Ordinances voted to send the "Skip the Stuff" ordinance to City Council for adoption without amendment, while Councilor Nicole Gardner confirmed the committee addressed Commission on Disabilities concerns through planned staff training. The ordinance would restrict automatic provision of utensils, straws, and condiments with takeout orders, and had drawn concerns from disability advocates about impacts on people needing specific items for safety.
Rather than amending the text, the committee voted to direct Mia Kanin, Assistant Sustainability Manager, to present training materials at a future Rules and Ordinances meeting. Labadini was reconfirmed to the Licensing Board 3-0.
