Committee recommends approval of three biotech lab permits

Watertown BioSafety Committee recommended three biotech lab permits to the Board of Health.

BioSafety Committee · Meeting of June 4, 2026

Watertown BioSafety Committee recommended three biotech lab permits to the Board of Health. The committee voted unanimously 5-0 to advance applications from Abiologics, Ampersand Biomedicines, and Profound Therapeutics, Inc., all at 99 Coolidge Avenue, contingent on updated Emergency Action Plans and Chemical Hygiene Plan staffing. Abiologics operates 5,600 square feet of lab space within its 18,000-square-foot facility; the others are small-quantity generators.

The committee classified a separate stem-cell research project as a registration rather than permit, citing low biosafety risk.
