Committee on Public Works · Meeting of October 20, 2026

Watertown's Committee on Public Works backed a $3 million loan order for 2027 road construction while flagging unresolved gaps in the city's street-rebuild backlog. DPW Director Thomas Brady told the panel, chaired by Councilor Vincent Piccirilli, that six streets, led by the worst-rated Concord Road, qualify for full reconstruction but would cost $5.6 million combined, nearly double the funding available. Councilor Palumbo noted the department is juggling roughly 12 streets between April and November 2027 on top of carryover work, prompting Brady to say, "I'm pushing my team as hard as I feel comfortable pushing." A committee member pressed Brady on why Franklin and Center streets, long promised full-depth reconstruction, appear only for mill-and-overlay resurfacing; Brady said the streets were missing from bid packages before he arrived.

The committee also voted 3-0 to refer a curb-installation policy question and voted to review the city's 2013 capital-projects budget guidelines.
