WATERTOWN — The Human Rights Commission discussed four recent immigration detention incidents in Watertown and began planning a response to a Massachusetts Temporary Protected Status Committee event. Corey Barr noted the Rapid Response Network was supporting affected residents, while Xin Peng questioned what elected officials could do. The commission determined to update a recent statement with state and local resources and tasked Peng with drafting a statement for City and State officials.
The commission identified a need for Know Your Rights materials in Creole and Arabic at the Watertown Free Public Library, with Barr agreeing to contact Captain Unsworth at the Watertown Police Department to discuss resources. Updated items were scheduled for the next meeting for approval.
