BioSafety Committee Approves Two Biotech Lab Permits
Watertown BioSafety Committee voted to recommend two biotech lab permits.
BioSafety Committee · Meeting of January 8, 2026
Watertown BioSafety Committee voted to recommend two biotech lab permits. On January 8, the committee voted unanimously to recommend approval of Studio Dx at 313 Pleasant Street with three conditions: identify sources of primary human blood and repositories, provide a risk and mitigation table for allergen work, and submit a detailed list of organisms and cell lines. Dr.
Deb McEwan had flagged concern about the risk of spreading pathogens from the lab's testing of primary human blood. The committee also voted unanimously to recommend approval of ICLUCIA Therapeutics at 155 Arlington Street without conditions. Two amendments for existing operations at Cultivarium LLC and Abkyu required no Board of Health approval because they posed no increased biosafety risk.
