Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee Reviews Mobility Study, Plans Greenway Crossing
Watertown bicycle and pedestrian advocates reviewed a consultant-drafted mobility study with recommendations for transit expansion and pedestrian safety improvements.
Bike & Pedestrian Committee · Meeting of April 6, 2026
Watertown bicycle and pedestrian advocates reviewed a consultant-drafted mobility study with recommendations for transit expansion and pedestrian safety improvements. Senior Transportation Planner Zeke Mermell presented the Stantec report, which found that 61 percent of residents drive alone despite the city's density matching higher-transit peer communities. The study recommends expanding the Watertown Connector bus system, extending the MBTA 65 bus to Arsenal Street, and reducing inner core commuter rail fares.
The city Department of Public Works also confirmed implementation of a two-way painted bicycle crosswalk at the Arlington-Nichols-Greenway intersection in Spring 2026, with warning panels at two corners.
